To be or not to be a National Museum? That is today’s one million dollar question!

The subject brought for discussion to this debate is the financing of public museums and future perspectives, taking the present situation of public Portuguese museums into account.

We live in a changing and challenging time, namely on the politics and financial system of the Portuguese museums. Soon we’ll beaware of the new law that regulates the cultural heritage. We all wait it with expectation and apprehension, since the experts, like directors of museums, and the museums professional associations like ICOM and APOM, were not involved.

We are however sure that atthis moment there is a purely centralized vision, keeping the national museums close to the central power, and move all the others to the Regional Cultural Directions.
